Pride patch!

ok I have no idea why this paragraph is bound and determined to be centered like this, but it’s not budging and I don’t care enough.

Early on in my crochet…. journey? Career? Education? I stumbled upon a sponsored Pinterest post for 17 free crochet patterns. Several of the projects really caught my eye, and I ended up making a bag! It was a pretty ambitious project for such a beginner, but it’s functional, my mom still uses it, and the yarn was a really fun colorway, so I’m happy with it.

I digress!

The patterns were linked to a website called LoveCrafts and I fell in, well, love! It was everything I could want in a crafting site. The design was vibrant and fun, and in a time where I needed all the vibrancy and fun I could get, I was hooked.

Literally. ;^)

I’ve followed them on social media ever since, and earlier this week I found this post.

A Pride project! Instantly I knew what I wanted to do. I just so happened to have a beautiful baby blue yarn and a strawberry-yogurt colored yarn waiting around for their chance to shine.

Without further ado, I present….

Trans Pride granny squares!

I know it’s not a huge, groundbreaking form of support. This isn’t going to change the world, but I hope it feels a bit like a hug. Especially recently, transgender people have been under inhumane levels of scrutiny and abuse, and I don’t ever EVER want to be thought of anything other than supportive and loving. There are too many hard edges in this world. I want to offer softness. Rest and comfort.

I thought of all of the marvelous people I know and love who are transgender or genderqueer. Each stitch brought a fresh wave of love for them, and I hope in some sort of way, they felt it. I know I need to be a better friend and a better, more outspoken ally in so many ways, but this is a small gesture that brought me some joy. I’ll be following this up with a donation either to an organization, or directly to someone I know and love.
