Plans for the week

As promised, here is an idea of what I'd like to work on this week.

First and foremost, I want to finish the Box Dress from All Well. I have only a few dresses right now, and I want one that will carry me from summer into winter. This is a really simple pattern and I chose a really beautiful sage green linen blend fabric that has the most gorgeous drape. I'm scared but excited to dig in! The front and back are both cut out and dangling over my office chair right now, so it's just a matter of winding a bobbin with green thread, pinning the shoulders, and DOING IT ALREADY. It really shouldn't take that long.

Next up, I'd really like to finish my Sandbanks cardigan from Shop Daisy and Dime. I've finished the first half of the cardigan, so now I need to get through the second half, joining, and adding finishing layers at the bottom. Unfortunately I messed up the second half pretty catastrophically and didn't notice until I was ready to join it to the second half, and had to frog the entire thing. Now that I've had some time to pout about it, I'm ready to get it done before the weather cools off. I think it'll look cute with my Box Dress, too, which is a bonus!

Those are really the only things I'm pushing to finish this week, but I'd really like to be able to start another sewing project. I'm trying to balance new projects with scrap busters so I don't end up overwhelmed by bits and pieces of fabrics all over my house. Just this morning I was sifting through a Trader Joe's bag that was full of tiny scraps, wondering what the heck I could do with them since they were too small to really sew with. I got overwhelmed and took a little Instagram break, and stumbled across DIY Daisy's Door Lump pattern! With cooler weather allegedly on the horizon, I want a cute door stop I can use to let in some nice air without worrying my door will slam closed. I'll use scrap fabric to stuff it and give it some heft, and voila! Scrap-related stress? Gone.

In addition to using the scraps as a door stopper, I've trimmed a few larger cotton pieces and will try my hand at some low-stakes embroidery practice. If I love it, I'll keep it, and if I don't, I'll make another door stopper, no sweat.

There's a lot more to be made, but that's what next week is for!

See you on Tuesday,

-Haeley
